WHAT:

The UPSHOT League will host open tryouts for female athletes seeking a professional pathway in women’s basketball ahead of the league’s inaugural season. Tryouts will provide players who have exhausted their college eligibility the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of league executives and coaching staffs as teams begin building opening-day rosters.

 

WHO:

The UPSHOT League, a new women’s professional basketball league founded by Commissioner Donna Orender, former President of the WNBA, and Andy Kaufmann, founder of Zawyer Sports & Entertainment.

Greensboro Open Tryout

Date: Sunday, March 1, 2026

Time: 1- 4 p.m.

Location: Novant Health Fieldhouse at Greensboro Complex, Greensboro, North Carolina


DETAILS:

The UPSHOT League will debut with four founding teams, the Jacksonville Waves, Charlotte Crown, Greensboro Groove, and Savannah Steel, with additional markets to follow. The league is built on the pillars of opportunity and community, focused on creating meaningful pathways for women athletes while strengthening the cities it serves.

“These tryouts represent more than roster spots, they represent real opportunity,” said Commissioner Donna Orender. “The UPSHOT League is committed to creating a professional platform where women athletes are valued, supported, and connected to their communities in meaningful ways. These women will be new heroes in new cities.”


The league’s inaugural season begins May 15, 2026, with final rosters announced May 9.
